2" thick to be effective Even if you
are a larger person you don’t need a memory foam mattress
pad that is as thick as 4 inches. A 4 inch topper is just too
thick and will make your mattress profile too high. Our research
has concluded that 3 inches is the perfect middle ground.
Another
consideration when shopping for memory foam mattress pads is “density".
Density is the weight of 1 cubic foot of the foam. A 5lb density
is firmer than the 3lb and 4lb density visco foam pads. In
addition memory foam toppers with a higher 5lb density tend
to be too firm for most people. Density rating also indicates
the recovery time of the memory foam. 5lb density foam tends
to recover more slowly. Whereas 3lb and 4lb density recovers
more quickly. This quicker recovery time makes the 3lb and
4lb foam move with you as you move from position to position.
